
Collin College Men's Basketball won big over Ranger College and Hill College during a two-week home stand. The team travels this weekend and returns to face Southwestern Christian College to close out the month.
The Cougars never looked back after a hot start against Ranger, coming way with an 89-62 win on Jan. 15. Vinny Sigona and Garrett Falls tied with 19 points to lead Collin scorers, followed by Brady Kennison with 16 points. The top three each pulled down three boards, while Vladislav Karasev notched 10 – seven defensive rebounds and three on offense – making him the leading rebounder on the court that night.
The Cougars took more shots and had a better shooting percentage than the visitors, with a 46.9% field goal percentage. The team also sank 14-of-17 from the free throw line for an 82.4% performance.
Although marginally a closer game, the Cougars put up an 87-68 win over Hill College on Jan. 22.
Sigona again led Collin in scoring with 22 points, followed by Geancarlo Peguero with 17 and David Emelife with 16. Emelife led the team in steals and rebounds, while Sigona led in assists. The team took the same number of shots against Hill as they did against Ranger – 64 – improving the baskets made by one. The team again only missed two of its 15 attempted free throws. Sigona hit 6-of-13 three-point shots to lead the team in baskets from downtown.
Collin will face off against McLennan Community College starting at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25.
