Collin College Men's Basketball had strong wins in its first three outings of the 2024-25 season and continues to improve every day, according to Coach Jim Sigona.
The team started the season with a 97-55 win over Strength 'N Motion Academy out of San Antonio. The team shot 42% from the field. Leading scorers were Garrett Falls with 18 points, David Emelife with 17 points, and Vinny Sigona with 12 points.
All three players are new to the Collin Cougars, part of an infusion of new blood into the program. Ten players joined the squad in the off-season with just two players, Vlad Karasev and Tim Mikhailhov, returning from last year's North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference (NTJCAC) title-winning team. Coach Sigona said that good early scrimmages have helped build chemistry among the players.
Vinny led all scorers in Collin's 107-54 win over Loyalty Prep a few days later, adding 22 to the team's total. He was followed by Falls with 20 points and Brady Kennison with 15. The team shot 51.3% from the field and 47.2% from beyond the arc. Vinny sank five of eight from the three-point line to lead the team.
Collin faced off against Brookhaven College in its toughest game of the season so far on Nov. 5, winning 97-84. Vinny again led all scorers with 24 points, followed by Falls with 20 and Geancarlo Peguero with 15 points. Vinny led the team in assists with 13, while Mikhailov notched three steals, and four players recorded blocks.
Asked which teams he looks forward to facing, Coach Sigona said, "We have some early non-conference games against ranked opponents and play South Plains, which is ranked No. 1 in the country. Conference play looks to be very competitive again."
