Collin College Golf's inaugural fall season has laid a foundation to build on in the spring, according to Coach Cooper Schoolcraft.

The men's and women's teams played in tournaments in Brenham and Jacksonville, Texas, and Ardmore, Oklahoma. The men's team also squeezed in a tournament in Odessa. Tournament results are available here for the men's team and here for the women's team.

Schoolcraft said the tournaments were a good introduction to National Junior College Athletic Association golf for players who had not seen that level of competition.

"We've been able to play with the majority of the region, including three of the top four teams in the nation," he said. "We saw exactly what we expected to see, and we know what level we need to rise to in order to compete."

He noted that sophomore Noel Bondesson had two top six finishes through four tournaments, and freshman Johnna Johanson had two top 15 finishes through three tournaments.

"I'm excited to see what both of these athletes are able to do this coming spring," Schoolcraft said.

Schoolcraft said that as the players prepare for spring, he will encourage them to focus on learning to take the shots that are given to them. He said the team as a whole needs to do a better job of getting up and down from difficult positions.

"A big focus for us going forward will be learning to stay patient, stick to the identity of our game, and let opportunities to score develop rather than trying to force it," he said. "When you try and force it, big numbers come into play. I've got to do a better job of encouraging everyone to stay patient."
